Are you looking forward to a holiday in summer 2021? If you're hoping to enjoy a UK break and are planning ahead for when the sunny weather hits next year, be sure to book well in advance to avoid disappointment and ensure you get to stay at your first choice of holiday destination.
The anticipated holiday seasons this year have been unexpectedly shaken to the core by the sudden arrival of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Many would-be holidaymakers have lost out on the opportunity to get away due to the lockdown and holiday parks, resorts and accommodation being forced to close down in an effort to get the virus under control.
Lifting the lockdown for summer holidays
Though the travel industry is expecting UK holidays to resume on 4th July this year, and those eager to get away are sure to take advantage of the opportunity, it’s likely that things aren’t set to go back to normal for quite some time.
There will likely be restrictions when holiday parks reopen, including social distancing measures, which could mean reduced capacity and not enough space for the number of guests who might be hoping to book a holiday. Local attractions, pubs, and restaurants are also not guaranteed to all be open to the public immediately, which may put some off taking their holiday right away.
Furthermore, elderly people or those who are immunocompromised may not want to take the additional risk of going on holiday while there is still a possibility – however low – of another outbreak of COVID-19. Those who are more risk-averse or don’t want the possibility of losing out if their holiday is cancelled may take a similar approach.
With this in mind, many holidaymakers are instead choosing to wait it out – and looking forward to summer 2021, when the expectation is that all this will be behind us and normality will resume.
Holiday in the UK in summer 2021
With the global travel industry in upheaval and the spread of, and government response to, the virus differing widely between countries, it seems unlikely that international travel will bounce back for quite a while. Even once a vaccine is available, it will take some time to be distributed, and few holidaymakers will want to take the risk of ending up stranded abroad if another outbreak of the virus occurs.
For this reason, many UK citizens will instead choose to take their summer 2021 holidays within the UK instead, giving them greater control over their travel arrangements and significantly lower risk.
Where to holiday in the UK
Cornwall is a tourist hotspot and is likely to become even more so with people staying in the UK for their holidays. It’s little surprise that people flock to the county, with its spectacular scenery, fascinating culture and rich heritage. Gorgeous beaches and a temperate climate also make it a serious contender for those who might usually take their holiday on sun-soaked foreign shores.
It may be that, even in summer 2021, people are still cautious about large crowds, in which case remote locations – which often come with the benefit of beautiful countryside scenery – are likely to be more popular than ever before. The Scottish Highlands, including the vast open spaces of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, could well see more visitors than ever before.
If you’re looking forward to summer 2021 and the holidays you’ll take, it’s a great time to start thinking about where you’d like to go and making some exciting holiday plans.
